Conference Mentor Program

First-time and solo postdoc, graduate student, and undergraduate student GSA members may sign up to be matched with a GSA faculty member, who will serve as a Conference Mentor throughout the conference to answer your questions and provide advice on how to best maximize your conference experience. Program participants will have opportunities to connect with other program mentors and mentees during mealtimes.

Conference Success Tips and Welcome from the Early Career Leadership Program
Saturday, June 13, 1:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. PDT

This event helps first-time conference attendees and early career scientists make the most of the conference and provide a chance to meet other attendees in an informal setting. Topics covered may include introductions to organizers of the meeting, advice on having meaningful interactions, and an introduction to scientific events and other conference programming.

Getting Involved in GSA’s Early Career Professional Development
Saturday, June 13, 2:30 p.m.–3:00 p.m. PDT

GSA Early Career Leadership Program (ECLP) members will join us in sharing how to get involved in GSA’s professional development programming for early career scientists. GSA will walk through upcoming events and programs including how and when to apply to join the ECLP.

Individual Development Plan
Saturday, June 13, 3:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m. PDT

This event will walk early and mid-career scientists through completing an Individual Development Plan using two free virtual tools. The workshop will encourage participants to break out of the linear career path through process and practice of informational interviews.

Netwalking
Sunday, June 16 – Tuesday,  June 16, 7:30 a.m.–8:00 a.m. PDT

Connect with fellow conference attendees for a 30-minute walk to start your day with a fun conversation and explore the dunes of Asilomar! Participants will meet at the entrance to the boardwalk, near the dining hall, and walk through Asilomar’s beautiful dunes before attending breakfast in Crocker Hall.

Photographer Headshots
Sunday, June 14, 7:30 p.m.–10:30 p.m. PDT

 Yeast26 early career conference attendees will have the opportunity to have professional headshots taken by Afrang Media Productions during poster and exhibit sessions. Pre-registration is required for this GSA early career scientist member benefit. Early career scientists will be contacted in late May with additional information. Those who register by the Yeast 26 early registration date will be given priority. You may visit the photographer’s booth during the posted hours to inquire if a spot is available.
