Workshop Applications

Workshop applications will open October 3, 2024 and close November 7, 2024.

Individuals interested in organizing a workshop should review the instructions and selection criteria below and complete the online application. Workshops may be held either online in the week preceding the conference or in person during the conference. Workshops held in person will not be recorded.

Instructions and Guidelines

Due to space constraints, we may not be able to accommodate all workshops, even those on valuable topics. Proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Covers rising and upcoming research fields
  • Features a format that emphasizes and fosters discussion and interaction
  • Has community-building potential
  • Is of interest to the Drosophila community
  • Encompasses breadth across research areas, geographic region, institution type, and other elements that foster a wide range of knowledge and expertise

Proposals should clearly indicate why a workshop format is appropriate for the topic. Importantly, workshops are not intended to serve as a de facto oral session. Workshops should feature more discussion and interaction than regular sessions. To be considered, applicants must explicitly address how their format will stimulate such interactions.

Examples of Topics Appropriate for Workshops

  • Techniques
  • Emerging or specialized areas of research
  • Community resources
  • Professional development
  • Education (undergraduate or graduate)
  • Other topics of general interest

Applicants will be notified of their application outcome by December 2, 2024.

Please note the following rules:

  1. Workshop organizers must independently identify individuals who wish to participate in their session.
  2. Workshop organizers will not be able to review abstracts submitted for poster or platform sessions to determine possible presenters.
  3. All workshop organizers, speakers, and participants must be registered for the conference.
  4. All workshop organizers, speakers, and participants must abide by the GSA Code of Conduct.
  5. Workshops held online will use GSA’s Zoom accounts. GSA staff will provide technical assistance and help host these workshops.
