Awards & Financial Support
A variety of awards and grants from GSA and other organizations help recognize the outstanding achievements of community members and offset conference travel costs.
Applications for the DeLill Nasser Award for Professional Development were due September 18. The site is now closed.
The DeLill Nasser Award supports geneticists in their graduate or postdoctoral career stages by funding participation in conferences and laboratory courses.
Awards will be given for the best poster presentations by GSA undergraduate and graduate student members. Judges take both scientific merit and clarity of presentation into account. You must be a GSA student member and the first and presenting author on the abstract at the time of submission. Also, you must check the option during abstract submission to enter your poster in the competition.
Winners will be announced during the conference. PIs and postdocs who are GSA members can indicate during registration if they would like to help with judging.
The Sydney Brenner Dissertation Thesis Award will be presented in 2024 to a graduate student who has completed an outstanding PhD research project in the area of genetics and genomics of C. elegans.

Please note that all nominees will be required to submit a full application between October 1–October 31, which will include recommendation letters from mentors.
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, scientists from low- and middle-income countries may apply to have their registration fee waived. Please complete the waiver application (link available soon) by April 28, 2025.
To promote excellence in undergraduate research and education, the Genetics Society of America established the Undergraduate Travel Awards, which support registration costs for undergraduate members who are presenting at a GSA conference.
