Awards & Financial Support

A variety of awards and grants from GSA and other organizations help recognize the outstanding achievements of community members and offset conference travel costs.

DeLill Nasser Award for Professional Development in Genetics

Applications for the DeLill Nasser Award for Professional Development were due September 18. The site is now closed. 

The DeLill Nasser Award supports geneticists in their graduate or postdoctoral career stages by funding participation in conferences and laboratory courses.

GSA Poster Awards

Awards will be given for the best poster presentations by GSA undergraduate and graduate student members. PIs and postdocs who are GSA members are encouraged to indicate during registration if they would like to help with judging.

Eligibility: You must be a GSA student member and the first and presenting author on the abstract at the time of submission. Also, you must check the option during abstract submission to enter your poster in the competition.

Selection: Judges take both scientific merit and clarity of presentation into account. 

Recognition: Winners will be announced at the final plenary session. Winners will recieve: monetary prize, recognition on the GSA blog: Genes to Genomes and may include the award on their C.V.

Sydney Brenner Dissertation Thesis Award

The Sydney Brenner Dissertation Thesis Award will be presented in 2024 to a graduate student who has completed an outstanding PhD research project in the area of genetics and genomics of C. elegans.

Eligibility
Graduate students that had their thesis defense between October 1, 2023 and September 30, 2024 are eligible. Nominations may be from any worm community member. Self-nomination is allowed.

Nomination
The deadline to submit a nomination was September 30, 2024.

Please note that all nominees will be required to submit a full application between October 1–October 31, which will include recommendation letters from mentors.

GSA Undergraduate Travel Awards

To promote excellence in undergraduate research and education, the Genetics Society of America established the Undergraduate Travel Awards, which support registration costs for undergraduate members who are presenting at a GSA conference.
