Room Cancellation
For bookings made through the official accommodation booking site, attendees are able to cancel an individual booking up until 48 hours prior without penalty.
Value Added Tax (VAT)
All hotel reservations and purchases are subject to value added tax (VAT), which is currently 20%. The VAT is already included in the prices shown in shops.
Visitors from non-EU countries can claim a refund of value added tax (VAT) from selected shops on goods to be taken out of the country under the Retail Export Scheme. To find out how to reclaim sales tax visit the UK government website.
Travel
Visit Glasgow’s Visitor Information site to get up-to-date information on traveling to the city. Glasgow is served by three international airports and a train station. Be sure and check airfares to Edinburgh Airport because they may be less than to Glasgow. It is an easy hour train ride from Edinburgh to Glasgow.

Bus service from Glasgow Airport to City Center is available.
Public transportation is not required to reach the SEC from any of the conference hotels. When traveling through the city to see the attractions, you can get around by foot, bike, ScotRail or taxis. Visit the Bike Hire site to see details on renting a bike. If traveling by ScotRail, you depart at the dedicated SEC station, Exhibition Centre.
Conference Scotrail Rover Ticket
A special Scotrail Rover ticket is available for £5.00 for 5 days. Attendees can also book their train tickets for travel after the conference with a discount of up to 50% but you must book your tickets during the conference dates. At Rover ticket stations, show your badge, proof of your registration and photographic id to purchase the discounted Rover pass and for tickets for travel post conference.

Visa Requirements
Check if you will require a UK visa on the UK Government website. If you need a Standard Visitor visa, you must apply online before you travel to the UK and attend an appointment at a visa application center. The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel.

Currency and Tipping
The official currency is the Great British Pound. Great Britian has not adopted the Euro. A 10–15% tip is customary, particularly in a restaurant, bar, or café. For taxi fares, tipping is at your discretion.
Shopping
Shops in the city center are generally open Monday to Friday until at least 6:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Late-night shopping is on Thursdays, with many stores open until 8:00 p.m.
Smoking
Smoking is banned in all public places including all enclosed or partly-enclosed public areas.
Electricity and Conversions
The standard voltage in Scotland is 230V AC, 50Hz. Plugs have 3 rectangular pins in a triangular pattern, and adapters are widely available.
Time Zone and daylight
Glasgow’s time zone is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) plus one hour, known as British Summer Time (BST) during daylight saving time in the summer months. At the time of the conference, you can expect daylight from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
