The Annual Drosophila Research Conference is the premier meeting for Drosophila researchers. As many as 1,000 presentations will cover the full diversity of Drosophila investigations, from genetics to molecular biology, cell biology, development, immunology, physiology, neuroscience, evolution, and more. In addition to the invited speakers in the Plenary Sessions and abstract-driven Platform Sessions, the 2023 meeting will feature an Equity and Inclusion Plenary Session, Techniques and Technology Platform Session, attendee-organized workshops, and a wide range of professional development and networking events.
This year’s Annual Drosophila Conference Organizers built the conference around a central theme: “Pay It Forward.” The theme offers a way for us to reflect on our intentions as scientists, cultivate an inclusive community of knowledge-sharing, and take responsibility for these values going forward.
#Dros23 will be held in-person at The Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk in Chicago, IL. Located in the heart of the River North district, Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk is an urban sanctuary amid iconic attractions. Experience striking views of the lake, river and Chicago cityscape. Yukiko Yamashita
HHMI/Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Yukiko Yamashita is a member of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Biology, where she is also an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
Her study is centered on the mystery of germline immortality that supported the continuation of multicellular life for 1.5 billion years. Within this scope, she studies asymmetric stem cell division, the maintenance of ribosomal DNA, functions of satellite DNA in cell biology, and evolution.

The Larry Sandler Memorial Lecture is presented by an outstanding recent PhD graduate on the opening day of the Conference. Any student completing a PhD in an area of Drosophila research between July 2021 and December 2022 is eligible and may be nominated by their thesis advisor. Nominations are due on December 15, 2022.
The Drosophila Image Award is given to the most striking image and video that clearly convey an important biological result and communicate important findings in Drosophila research. Images from papers that have been accepted for publication in 2022 will be eligible for the 2023 award.
We would love to see everyone in Chicago, though we realize some may not be able to travel. For those who can’t make it to #Dros23 in Chicago, virtual registration will offer opportunities to present, online access to abstract-driven oral presentations, poster PDFs, professional development events, and more. Registrants may change their registration from in-person to virtual or from virtual to in-person until January 3, 2023.
