26th International Worm Meeting
A variety of awards and grants from GSA and partner organizations help recognize the outstanding achievements of community members and offset conference travel and attendance costs.

The Sydney Brenner Dissertation Thesis Award will be presented in 2027 to a graduate student who has completed an outstanding PhD research project in the area of genetics and genomics of worm research.
Eligibility
Graduate students that will have had their thesis defense between October 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026 are eligible. Nominations may be from any worm community member. Self-nomination is allowed.
Nomination
The deadline to submit a nomination is September 30, 2026.
Please note that all nominees will be required to submit a full application between October 1–October 31, which will include recommendation letters from mentors.
Awards will be given for the best poster presentations by GSA undergraduate and graduate student members. PIs and postdocs who are GSA members are encouraged to indicate during registration if they would like to help with judging.
Eligibility: You must be a GSA student member and the first and presenting author on the abstract at the time of submission. Also, you must check the option during abstract submission to enter your poster in the competition.
Selection: Judges take both scientific merit and clarity of presentation into account.
Recognition: Winners will be announced at the final plenary session. Winners will receive: monetary prize, recognition on the GSA blog Genes to Genomes and may include the award on their C.V.
The GSA Undergraduate Travel Award was established to promote excellence in undergraduate research and education. It supports travel costs for undergraduate GSA members who are presenting at and attending a GSA Conference.
The GSA Undergraduate Travel Award has two rounds of applications per year; one for GSA Conferences occurring between January 1 and June 30, and another for GSA Conferences held between July 1 and December 31. Application dates for the upcoming cycle will be available soon.
Application site will open in February 2027.
The DeLill Nasser Award supports scientists studying genetics who are GSA members in their graduate or postdoctoral career stages by providing $1,000 to fund participation in conferences and laboratory courses.
