Workshop and Event Requests

Exhibitor Events

Exhibiting organizations and other industry groups are invited to host workshops or events. TAGC provides a great opportunity to host a breakfast or lunch to update customers on new and emerging trends or a demonstration of your latest technology. There is an additional fee to use the space, which includes a listing in the program book and the online schedule of events. Exhibitor events and workshops will be selected on a first come, first served basis depending on space availability. Nonprofit groups and exhibiting companies will receive a 25% discount.

Ancillary Events

Groups who would like to hold meetings, receptions, or other events before, after, or during TAGC are encouraged to take advantage of this unique conference, which will bring together researchers from across the biological research spectrum. Space will be available in 90-minute blocks. Examples of Ancillary Events:

• Lab member reunions
• Editor events for scholarly journals
• Genome database meetings
• Industry recruitment events
• Collaborative projects and consortia

Workshops

Attendees are invited to submit workshop proposals that encourage interaction and exchange across community boundaries.

Workshop Proposal Instructions and Guidelines

Please note that the Workshop application is intended for students, postdocs, and faculty/investigators. Organizations interested in holding a workshop should follow the instructions above for exhibitor events.

Workshop proposals are highly competitive and many worthy topics must be turned down. Proposals with broad appeal across organisms, topics, and methods will be given priority. To fill the limited available workshop slots, the Allied Program Committee (which includes representatives from all TAGC communities) will evaluate proposals on the following criteria:

• Rising and upcoming fields
• Emphasis on discussion
• Innovative format
• Diversity (both in terms of presenters and labs)
• Community-building potential
• Interest to the community

Proposals should clearly indicate why a workshop format is appropriate for the topic. Importantly, workshops are not intended to serve as a de facto oral presentation session. Workshops should have more discussion and interaction than regular sessions. To be considered, applicants must explicitly address how their format will stimulate such interactions.

Examples of topics appropriate for workshops could include:

• techniques
• emerging or specialized areas of research
• education (undergraduate or graduate)
• other topics of general interest

Please note the following rules:

• Workshop organizers must independently identify individuals to participate in their session; they will not be able to review abstracts submitted for poster or oral presentation sessions.
• All workshop organizers, speakers, and participants must register for the conference.
• All workshops will be a maximum of two hours in length.

The application deadline was November 1, 2019. Applicants will be notified of their application outcome in December 2019.
