The Sydney Brenner Dissertation Thesis Award will be presented in 2024 to a graduate student who has completed an outstanding PhD research project in the area of genetics and genomics of C. elegans.
Eligibility
Graduate students that had their thesis defense between October 1, 2022 and September 30, 2023 are eligible. Nominations may be from any worm community member.
Application
The deadline to submit an application was October 15, 2023. For consideration, the completed form and a full thesis PDF or link to a PDF (if larger than 10 MB) must be emailed to Amanda.Zacharias@cchmc.org by 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time (US) on October 15, 2023 with subject line “WORM THESIS AWARD”.
Letter of Recommendation
A separate letter of recommendation letter must be submitted by the letter writer from a work email address to Amanda.Zacharias@cchmc.org by October 15, 2023 with subject line “WORM THESIS AWARD: [Nominee Name]”. The letter may be from any PI who knows you well and should not exceed 1000 words. The letter should discuss:
-the state of the field prior to the start of your thesis project
-your role in the development of the thesis project
-your independence, creativity, and contributions to your thesis research
-any obstacles you overcame
Call for Judges for the Worm Community Graduate Thesis Award
We are recruiting PIs to serve as judges for this Award from diverse races and ethnicities, research areas, geographic areas, institution types, and career stages. We will use the list of interested people to serve on the committees for this and future years. Sign up to indicate your interest in judging.
Donate to the endowment for this Award
Make a donation through the GSA website: under Donation Fund, click down to “Worm Community Graduate Thesis Award”. The funds will be used to endow this Award so that the Awardee will receive funds to present their research at the TAGC conference in 2024 and the IWM/Topic meetings in future years.
