You’re Invited…
…to publish with the GSA Journals in 2025! As you prepare your publications for the year, there are many reasons to submit to GENETICS or G3: Genes|Genomes|Genetics.
On the frontlines of foundational research
Inspiring new approaches
GENETICS Special Issue editors Stan Fields (University of Washington), Maria Chikina (University of Pittsburgh), and Konrad Lohse (University of Edinburgh) announce our call for papers on Experimental and Computational Methods. Submit by March 1, 2025 for potential inclusion in this Special Issue.
The ability to use genetic and genomic data to advance knowledge requires advances in both experimental and computational methods. This Special Issue will highlight both types of methods and showcase the advances regularly found in the GENETICS sections on Experimental Technologies and Resources and Computational Resources, Software, and Databases.
Investigating life at every level

Our editors welcome your research across the tree of life with novel insights at every level—from molecular, cellular, and developmental studies to behavioral, population, and evolutionary approaches.
Genome Reports at G3 offer rapid dissemination of high-quality whole genome sequence (WGS) data in a structured format. The peer review process was tailored specifically for Genome Reports, and our open data policy supports further investigation and applications.

Helpful editors
Research excellence doesn’t end in the lab. GSA Journal editors understand the care and attention required to communicate the meaning of results and new insights. At least two editors consult on every decision.
High-quality review
We recognize the significant contributions of our reviewers. In addition to publishing our annual index, GSA Journals participate in the Web of Science Reviewer Recognition Service. We use single-anonymized peer review and encourage your reviewer suggestions.

Experienced insight and guidance
Your editors thoughtfully invite reviewers and synthesize their reports with direction to improve your paper’s impact. Your decision letter will help you move forward.
Responsive and timely
After your initial submission, we don’t leave you guessing. From submission to acceptance averages about twelve weeks.
- in about one week, you’ll learn if your paper will be reviewed
- in forty-five days (on average), you’ll receive the first decision
- in four weeks (on average) after acceptance, your paper will be online
Our handling editors and editorial office includes trained scientists who understand your urgency. That’s why we also have a no-scoop policy and are always quick to respond within days—not weeks.
Simplified submissions and timely transfers
- Format-free submissions to save your research time
- Collaborative writing and LaTeX support with Overleaf templates
- Editorial support and collaboration for paper transfers between GENETICS and G3, Theoretical Population Biology (TPB), and reputable journals in life and biomedical sciences
Open policies accelerate inquiry and integrity
Data availability for reproducibility and discoverability
GSA is a non-profit society run by and for scientists. Our community supports our open data policy, created in 2010. We support Force 11 Data Citation Principles so your results have the greatest possible impact and your findings can be used in the next generation of research.
Articles feature links to model organism databases (SGD, FlyBase, WormBase, and FungiDB) and knowledgebases.
GSA partnered with figshare in 2018 to host data, code, images, and other supplemental material for FREE. figshare DOIs are citable and permanently linked to your manuscript. Other general and specialized repositories are also supported.
Preprints and portable peer review
GSA was the first to partner with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in 2014 for direct submission from and deposition to bioRxiv.
The GSA Journals accept reviews from independent review platforms, are Review Commons affiliates, and are Peer Community In (PCI) friendly. Authors can also bring reviews from previous submissions at other journals, with additional reviews before decision at the editors’ discretion.
